This paper examines the irrigation development strategies used in Cambodia from the pre-Angkorian period until the present period. An historical analysis of Cambodian irrigation and drainage is employed, with special emphasis on the independence period (1953-1970). In addition, a proposal for continued irrigation development strategy is introduced, with considerations given to socio-economic, ecological, and hydro-climatological aspects of the country.;
